Composting for your lawn

by John Robert on April 09, 2021

Most people think that composting is for your garden.  While fruits, vegetable, flowers and potted plants benefit greatly from compost, so too does your lawn.  Composting is an all natural way to add rich, organic material to your soil.

High quality compost is available at your local garden center.  But if you are a "do it yourselfer", get yourself a compost urn for your kitchen collection and a compost bin / tumbler for storage and development.  Make use of your kitchen scraps and feel less guilt about food waste when you know it is going to treat your lawn.

The benefits of composting for your lawn are vast.  It can act as a great top coat for overseeing.  Sprinkling grass seed on a lawn without a top coat is generally ineffective.  Compost provides the best growing medium for your new seed.  But beyond overseeing, composting will add nutrients back to your soil.  It helps you level out any low spots or damaged spots.  And it adds valuable micro nutrients to your lawn.  Probiotics are not just for gut health...your lawn needs them too (see our blog on soil health)

With occasional composting treatment, you lawn will be healthy, green and thriving.
